The Importance of Human Risk Management
Protecting your business from cybercrime has become more important than ever. Business losses from cybercrime have doubled in the last few years to $6 trillion and are expected to reach $10 trillion by 2025. This despite huge spending on cybersecurity.
Using the UK as an example, more than 90 percent of data breaches are caused by human behaviour, in other words company employees are where access is being given. Existing cybersecurity awareness training has proven to be largely ineffective, highlighting the need for solutions that allow human risk to be effectively managed.
FUEL has recently partnered with OutThink, a UK cybersecurity company, to offer its uniquely effective human risk management to our clients.
In creating this unique platform for addressing employee risk, OutThink engaged researchers at the University of London who used their expertise in cybersecurity, behavioural science, psychology, and data analytics.
How it works
The platform consists of three separate components: adaptive security awareness training; phishing simulations; and human risk intelligence.
Human risk intelligence is the key component. It is based on behavioural science and runs silently in the background, providing feedback on high-risk employees and groups, why these are a risk, and how these staff can be supported better.
Individual scores get assigned to each employee and revealed to management on a live dashboard. Interventions are suggested or automatically deployed, depending on preference. This human risk intelligence data determine the awareness training and phishing simulations which get used.
In addition, the company itself receives an overall company human risk score, as well as all individual departments. This provides a complete picture of where a company’s risk level is and allows the appropriate precautions to be taken.
The OutThink platform has earned major industry approval, with a top 5.0 score from ratings body Gartner Peer Insights, as well as a Seal of Excellence award from the European Innovation Council. We are very pleased for the opportunity of being able to include the platform as one the software solutions FUEL offers its clients.
